Pt. Shiv Kumar Sharma at Bengal Classical Music Festival 2012, Dhaka, Bangladesh
#bengalclassicalmusicfestival
Santoor virtuoso Pt. Shiv Kumar Sharma is credited with transforming the 100-stringed Santoor, also known as Shatotantra Veena, from its humble origin as an accompanying instrument in the music of the Sufi orders of the Kashmir Valley, to a high-ranking solo instrument in the north-Indian classical music tradition. He increased the melodic range of the Santoor, changed the arrangement and tuning of the strings and modified the playing technique to make it suitable for Indian classical music.
Pt Shiv Kumar Sharma played Raag Hansadhwani in Dhaka at Bengal Classical Music Festival 2012, and captivated the audience with his legendary mastery and virtuosity. Tabla maestro Pt Yogesh Samsi’s brilliant accompaniment added depth to the recital.
