Giving A Lift (1932)

United States of America. Introductory intertitle reads: “Spawning salmon must go up river to quiet waters - but the journey is a hard one. This specially constructed railway gives them a helpful lift.“ L/S of the Baker River dam. High angle shot of choppy waters with salmon jumping. Narrator explains how the dam prevents the salmon returning to their spawning grounds. The government fisheries department has provided a method of helping the salmon. Various shots of a salmon ladder in operation including C/Us showing the fish being moved up in small tanks. C/U of man holding a salmon to “inspect it“ - he laughs as the salmon struggles. A small rail car is loaded with fish - we see the car moving along tracks. The fish are then transferred to a cable transporter. The container of fish is moved through the air by a system of cables.
