Full title reads: “Financial Philosophy from fishes. Pathe Pictorial culls wisdom from Scallops, Starfish & Puffers.“
Shots of fish and other sea creatures are accompanied by an American narration. The fish are given human characteristics by the narrator. Starfish are called “Old Man Depression“ for some reason. Underwater shot of starfish floating down to the bottom of the seabed. Scallops flit around the seabed to escape the starfish.
Various fish are seen including puffer fish or “swell fish“. The narrator speaks of the fish swimming around in serenity “as were we mortals in 1929“ - a reference to the Wall Street Crash possibly? C/U of a puffer fish which has sucked in lots of water to make himself too big to swallow. The fish then empties itself again.
C/U of puffer fish stranded on a beach. It is inflated and begins to empty out water through its mouth and side gills. Narrator makes a joke about recommending the fish to bankers and economists. I don’t really understand the joke. Per
