Stanelli (1933)

Pathe Studio? Full title reads: “Now Pathe Pictorial presents Stanelli the famous Fiddle Fanatic (of Command Performance fame, etc.) in a duo-novelty.“ Stanelli performs a little comic monologue and pretends his pianist is invisible. This leads to some comic business where Stanelli asks his imaginary pianist questions and a “ghost piano“ plays responses. For example, when Stanelli asks who the pianist was out with the night before, the piano “plays“ a phrase from “Sally“. Stanelli brings a young woman on screen. Enid Darnley (?) - hard to distinguish her name and not listed in paperwork. He invites Enid to sing but she says she can’t sing but can tell a story. She begins telling a joke about a commercial traveller. Stanelli decides it is too blue and throws her off stage. Stanelli eventually plays the violin. He is accompanied by the “ghost piano“. The tune he plays may be “The Night When Love Was Born“. FILM ID: A VIDEO FROM BRITISH PATHÉ. EXPLORE OUR ONLINE CHANNEL, BRITISH PATH
