Bersaglieri

The Bersaglieri are a speciality of the infantry corps of the Italian Army. They were originally created by General Alessandro La Marmora on 18 June 1836 to serve in the Army of the Kingdom of Sardinia, later to become the Royal Italian Army. They can be recognized by the distinctive wide brimmed hat that they wear, decorated with black capercaillie feathers. The feathers are usually applied to their combat helmets. Another distinctive trait of the Bersaglieri is the fast jog pace they keep on parades, instead of marching. Bersaglieri have always distinguished themselves not only for their value in battle, but also for their proud spirit of light heartedness, impudence and love for life. They penetrated the Italia culture, in a manner that their name, their uniform and their running march are normally associated to courage, boldness and Italian unselfishness. An old adage says: “Bersaglieri wear the colours of the death but they are the most beautiful expression of the life”. Nato Rapid Deployabl
