Fred Roper And His Wonder Midgets (1936)

Titles read: ’Now Pathe Pictorial has pleasure in presenting - Those wonderful little folk FRED ROPER AND HIS WONDER MIDGETS - in ’Lilliputian Moments’ (The tallest artiste is only forty eight inches high)’. Pathe Studio, London. On a set dressed to look like the terrace garden of a cafe or bar we see an extremely tall waiter having a fight with a midget - the midget seems to be winning. The tall man runs away. A normal man in a suit walks onto the set and asks what is going on. The midget says “Just a little argument, and I won“. They do some silly chat about the man thinking he had ’flu and the midget saying it’s a flea. Then a huge group of male and female midgets come out onto the set and start singing ’Back To Those Happy Days’. The women are dressed in long frilled satin dresses and the men wear satin shirts and trousers (gypsy-style). Two of the men play instruments - a saxophone and an accordion.
