The Scharnhorst Mystery (Last Voyage of the Scharnhorst) - BBC Timewatch 2002

The story of the last resting place of the German battleship Scharnhorst sunk by the Royal Navy at the Battle of North Cape in December 1943. Seeking to attack a lightly defended convoy returning from Murmansk, the “unsinkable“ Scharnhorst was lured into a trap by British and Norwegian agents and sent to her grave in the icy Arctic waters off the coast of northern Norway. Almost 60 years later, a Norwegian underwater surveillance ship located the Scharnhorst’s last resting place to examine the wreck and determine the exact cause of its final demise. The film includes moving interviews with survivors from both sides of the last great surface engagement of the convoy war in the west.
