Freelancer Beta - Let’s Play - Episode 1 (No Commentary)

I got a download link for the Beta version of this game and upon trying it, I quickly noticed that it has some very significant differences from the released version, like different voices, different menu’s, different hotkeys and much more. Besides differences, also features that were never implemented can be found, most notably the interactive tutorial that you can see in the beginning of the video. Since this was a beta build of Freelancer, it came with loads of bugs. For instance, the tutorial doesn’t always work. Sometimes you just sit there in space and you can’t fly anywhere or access the menu. Another not so uncommon bug is that you are not able to control your ship anymore at random moments in space. You can even travel with a speed of 999 km/h. All you have to do is activate the engine kill and keep using your thruster, as demonstrated at 4:26. This really makes the cruise engine obsolete in most situations. Also, Juni seemed to be very entertained at 18:10 and 18:41. Sometimes the character voices are incorrect and sound unnatural, like at 14:06 and 31:56 for instance. It’s clear that this build is not even close to a finished product with all the bugs and text-to-speech voices. I’m really happy with how Freelancer eventually turned out in the released version. One feature in this Beta version that I kind of like is that you first talk to ship dealers, equipment dealers and commodities dealers before you see what they have to offer (16:13). It adds a bit of interactivity. I suggest you watch the entire video if you’re interested in learning more about the features, differences and bugs. I wanted to showcase all of the (different) animations and cutscenes, that’s why I didn’t skip any of them. I will definitely post more videos in which I play the rest the single player missions.
