High-voltage disconnect-switch arcing

The forming and breaking of a large electrical arc (lightning bolt) as a high-voltage disconnect switch is opened. For more info about what’s going on and where and why it was filmed, see: #500_kV_Switch Why does the arc grow, and why doesn’t the current take the shortest-distance path? The arc starts across the shortest path, but the ionized-plasma current-path heats up and rises. The ionized plasma has much lower resistance than the surrounding air so the current continues through the plasma.
