SpaceX Revealed Exact Reason Why Starship Moon Launch Got Cancelled, Boeing Starliner Launch Japanese billionaire Yusaku Maezawa has cancelled his ambitious “dearMoon“ mission, which aimed to be the first private flight around the moon. The project’s team had initially planned to launch the circumlunar flight with a crew of celebrities by the end of 2023, but the deadline proved unfeasible. Despite efforts to push forward, the uncertainty surrounding the project’s development led Maezawa to make the difficult decision to cancel the mission altogether. In a statement on the mission’s website, the team expressed their sincere appreciation for the support and interest in the project, apologizing for the disappointing outcome. Maezawa, the founder of Japanese online fashion store Zozo Inc, was announced as SpaceX’s first private passenger in 2018. He made history in 2021 as the first private passenger to visit the International Space Station in over a decade, launching on a Soyuz rocket. The dearMoon mission had generated significant excitement, with Maezawa announcing in 2022 that K-pop star TOP and DJ Steve Aoki would be among the eight crew members joining him on the journey. However, in November 2023, Maezawa announced that the mission would be delayed until 2024 or later due to uncertainties surrounding the project’s development. Maezawa attributed the cancellation to the uncertainty surrounding the project’s timeline, stating that he had signed the contract with SpaceX in 2018 with the assumption that the launch would occur by the end of 2023. As the project’s development faced delays, Maezawa found it challenging to plan his future and felt terrible about keeping the crew members waiting. With a heavy heart, he made the unavoidable decision to cancel the project. Thumbnail Credit: @RyanHansenSpace #starshiplaunch #spacex #starship
