About Jim Fitzpatrick Jim Fitzpatrick, a descendent of Thomas Fitzpatrick, who first explored California in 1851 alongside Jedediah Smith, is a California native and has been involved with Montessori education for more than 40 years. He and his wife, Frances, founded Santa Barbara Montessori School in 1975; he is currently SBMS’s Head of School, and vice-chair of the Montessori Administrators Association, a world-wide organization recognized by the Association Montessori Internationale (AMI), headquartered in Amsterdam, Holland.
