A hellish typhoon has hit Western Japan! 11 prefectures under attack!

Typhoon Lan made landfall on Tuesday morning in Japan’s Wakayama Prefecture, about 400 kilometers from Tokyo. Typhoon Lan follows Typhoon Khanun, which hit the country’s southwest earlier this month. Wind speeds reached 160 kilometers per hour, equivalent to a Category 2 hurricane. Authorities issued flood and landslide warnings as rivers burst their banks. Evacuation centers were set up in 11 prefectures. So far, at least 26 people have been injured. In several cities, rainfall on Tuesday exceeded the average for all of August. The city of Tottori received 480 millimeters of rain, while Okayama received 460 millimeters. A severe storm led to power outages in tens of thousands of homes. All commercial flights from Kansai, Chubu and Nagoya airports have been suspended. In total, more than 950 flights across the country have been cancelled. 650 people were forced to spend the night at the Kansai airport. All bullet trains between Nagoya and Shin-Osaka stations and between Shin-Osaka and Okayama stations have been cancelled. Popular tourist destinations, including the Kyoto Imperial Palace and Universal Studios Japan in Osaka, have been closed. The National High School Baseball Tournament, watched by millions of fans every year, has canceled all games for the day. Summer fireworks and festivals have also been canceled due to the approach of the typhoon. Typhoon Lan is forecast to move northwest, reaching the Sea of Japan by Wednesday before heading towards the Russian island of Sakhalin.
