Beethoven-Tarrega: Moonlight sonata on a 1913 Hermann Hauser I
Today marks the 250 anniversary of Ludwig van Beethoven birth. The exact date of his birth is unknown, but for sure the date he was baptised is Dec 17 1770.
The piece of music on the video doesn’t need any special introduction. The transcriprion of this piece was made by Francisco Tarrega (1952 - 1909), the spaniard who, beside establishing the new approach to the guitar technique in late 19 cent, adapted lots of piano music for guitar (the fact that Tarrega graduated from Madrid concervatory as a pianist also says a lot). From technical point of view Tarrega’s transcribing approach was quite simple: he just removed upperer and bottom octaves from piano texture – here you will have something closer to guitar. Tarrega himself standed for Bach fuge from BWV1001 as his best transcription. In my opinion the best he did on this field is Chopin Nocturno N2 in E-flat major with cadencia added by Tarrega.
The guitar you see in the video is 1913 Herman Hauser, the legendary German luthier w
