Szanta Oliwska - (Polish shanties)

●▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ஜ۩ENGLISH۩ஜ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬● “Oliwska szanta“ (“The Oliwa Shanty“) - a contemporary Polish sea song, written in 1988, which tells the tale of the battle of Oliwa (Oliwa is nowadays a district of Gdansk) which took place in 1627. In the 17th century, Poland was being attacked by its neighbours, one of these was Sweden, and in this battle the Swedish fleet was defeated. The commander of the Polish fleet was Admiral Arendt Dickman - originally a sailor and a tradesman. His galleon was the “Świety Jerzy“ (“Saint George“). The chorus commemorates Arendt Dickman and compares him to such famous admirals as Lord Nelson, Villeneuve and Medina Sidonia. ●▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ஜ۩POLISH۩ஜ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬`
