Svatopluk Havelka (1925-2009) was a czech composer of contemporary and film music. He studied composition privately with Karel Boleslav Jirák. From 1990 he worked as a proffesor of composition on Prague music Academy (AMU). In his ouevre, he treats in his own way with techniques of „Musica nova“. Beginning in the late 1970s his attention became focused on Christian subjects, and he composed many biblically based chamber works and choral-orchestral pieces.
Havelka’s first composition after his conversion to Christianity was the quartet Percussionata for 46 different instruments (but only four players). It is dedicated to the Prague Percussion Ensemble, who premiered it at the Prague Spring Music Festival in 1978. In this work, the composer availed himself of many years of experience with pe
