Field recording from the 60s of members of the Alur/Aluar Tribe in Northern Uganda and Congo playing their distinctive Agwara horns.
Agwara horns are long cowhorns played like brass instruments, typically with one or two different tones each, played in ensembles of seven or more people. The recording here is taken from the album “Africa Ceremonial & Folk Music“, on which the track is called “Aluar Horns“, though the ethnolinguistic group is most commonly referred to as “Alur“.
