This is an animation of a voltage multiplier circuit, also known as a Cockroft-Walton generator or a Cockroft-Walton voltage multiplier. The animation starts with no charge on any of the capacitors, and shows how the circuit charges each capacitor in turn. The animation demonstrates that this circuit would convert a /- 10 volt AC input into a 40V DC output. More sections could be added to increase the output voltage even further.
