LEGONG LASEM (The Dance of Lasem) Arguably the oldest amongst the remaining preserved variants of dramatic classic Legong, it is based on an ancient Malat/ Panji story about an insolent duke, Adipati Lasem, and the headstrong princess Rangkesari whom the duke tried to abduct & wed before she fortunately managed to escape. The drama also highlights a bird of ill omen - the Guwak (a crow, but is commonly mistaken as the mythical Garuda).
