Niger: Sky turns blood red as ’calima’ sandstorm descends on Niamey

The sky of Niger’s capital Niamey was a crimson shade on Monday as the result of ’calima’, a weather phenomenon characterized by the presence of dust, wind and sand from the Sahara desert. Sandstorm approached the capital city as the sky turned the red colour of blood. No major disruptions were reported by local authorities which had already suspended international flights into and out of Niger until May 23 and imposed a national curfew in the country to help
