Embattled FDNY boss Laura Kavanagh to resign after slew of controversies: ‘Time to pass the torch’

Embattled FDNY Commissioner Laura Kavanagh plans to resign, The Post has learned. “New York City will always be the love of my life,” she told The Post in an email. Kavanagh has been clinging to her post as some members of Mayor Adams’ administration feel she’s done a poor job extinguishing smoldering discontent about her leadership, sources told The Post. While Mayor Adams is still “very supportive” of Kavanagh, she’s​ feeling plenty of heat within the administration over a slew of firestorms under​ watch. They include rising FDNY emergency response times, surges in lithium-ion​ battery fires citywide, repeated criticism from rank-and-file firefighters and an​ age-discrimination lawsuit filed by “angry, old, white male” department honchos​ who were demoted, a City Hall insider said.
