Galinha Verde - Brazilian Anti-Integralist song

This is a march that satirizes the “Galinhas Verdes“ (Green chicken), nickname given to the militants of the Brazilian Integralist Action, led by Plínio Salgado, because of the green color of their uniforms. By the time the music was composed and sung, in 1942 and 1943, AIB no longer existed. It had already been dissolved by the Government, shortly after an attempted coup in 1938 when the Green Chickens attacked the Guanabara Palace and tried to kill Vargas (Germany aimed to put a puppet government of the AIB in Brazil in order to exploit our natural resources). After the failed coup attempt, the exiled Plínio Salgado worked as a spy for the axis in Portugal. PS: • “Quinta-Coluna“: The expression during the Second World War was used to refer to everyone who, “under the covers“ collaborated with the Nazi-Fascists. ▪︎ Lyrics: “Galinha verde não me entra no poleiro!“ Diz o meu galo, que é o dono do terre
