Host Anna Knishenko visits the famous air base five years after her last trip and is pleasantly surprised! Khmeimim has grown from a small civilian airfield into one of the world’s most secure, state-of-the-art military bases. It looks like a small town, which even has a church. There have been fewer sorties now that the situation on the ground has stabilised. At present, pilots mostly carry out training missions, but fighter jets are always combat-ready just in case. Khmeimim’s squadrons consist of Su-35s, Su-24s, and MiG-29 fighter jets. The Russian airbase in Syria is also one of the best-defended military sites in the world, with the S-400, Pantsir, and Tor air defence systems on guard. Host Anna Knishenko talks to Russian servicemen and service women, and also attends a Victory Day parade.
