Vladimir Nielsen plays Schubert, Mozart, Chopin – live 1957

Frankly from what I can tell this may not be the cleanest playing but it’s going up for its historical significance (to me). Vladimir Nielsen (1910-1998) studied the piano in Leningrad with Nikolai Richter and Nadezhda Golubovskaya, and the organ with Isaiah Braudo. He was a professor at the Leningrad Conservatory – his students include Sergei Slonimsky, Igor Komarov and Kazimierz Kord (see the second photo). This was recorded live in the small hall of the Leningrad Philharmonia on 20 December 1957. I’ve put a different photo for each piece. Timing below: 00:00 - Schubert Piano Sonata, D. 959 34:25 - Mozart Piano Sonata, K. 310 47:30 - Chopin Piano Sonata no. 3, op. 58 1:12:39 - Schubert Moments musicaux no. 4 1:16:02 - Schubert Impromptu, D. 899 no. 2 Владимир Нильсен - Шуберт - Моцарт - Шопен
