Erste Allgemeine Verunsicherung - Ba-Ba Bankberfall - 21-02-1986 TopPop

Erste Allgemeine Verunsicherung (EAV for short) is an Austrian pop band founded in 1977. Thomas Spitzer is the lyricist and composer. The band’s name is derived from the then Austrian insurance company “Erste Allgemeine Versicherungs-AG“. Musician Nino Holm had founded the band “Antipasta“, but it was not successful and was disbanded after three years. Then Holm decided to form a new band with his friend Thomas Spitzer. While they were still thinking about a name for the new band, they saw a branch of “Erste Allgemeine Versicherung“, EA for short, at a bus stop, and that’s how they came up with the name “Erste Allgemeine Verunsicherung-EAV“. They were first prosecuted for name abuse, but later the insurance company withdrew its complaint and even started sponsoring the band once it had become successful. At the end of the 70s, EAV was mainly successful in alternative German club scenes. With their fifth album Geld oder Leben! (1985) thanks to the song ’Ba-Ba-Banküberfall’ they finally had a big breakthrough in the entire German language area but also in the Netherlands where the record was ’TROS Parade plaat’ on Radio 3 on Thursday January 26, 1986. The record became a hit and reached the 25th position in the Dutch Top 40 and reached the 16th position in the National Hit Parade. In 1986 this album went platinum and then gold. One year later the song Fata Morgana also became a big hit. In 1987 the band released its next album, Liebe, Tod & Teufel, which sold over 1.5 million copies. We publish this hit now on February 12, 2021 because it was a hit exactly 35 years ago This Toppop appearance was first broadcast on February 21, 1986.
