Hydrofoil Meteor in the Markatsimansalmi Strait of Lake Ladoga

Large river boats are not always able to approach the pier of the city and disembark tourists. Sometimes, in order to transport river tourists from a cruise ship to the shore, a local small passenger fleet is used. So it was this time during the first cruise of the motor ship “Mustai Karim“ on the route Moscow - St. Petersburg. We then almost swam to the city of Sortavala, where we had planned an excursion, but we stopped in the Ladoga skerries far from it. Due to the difficult navigation and insufficient depths, our ship could not approach the pier of the city of Sortavala. We were sent a hydrofoil Meteor to help us. He even had the name “Patriarch Alexy II“. The hydrofoil Meteor was built in 1988 according to project 342E at the Zelenodolsk Shipyard named after A.M. Gorky (plant number 340). During construction, it was named Meteor-230. Then it was renamed “Prelate Alexy“, and later “Patriarch Alexy II“. Tourists of the ship “Mustai Karim“ safely crossed to the city of Sortavala on this Meteor, and after the excursion successfully returned to the ship. Shooting date: August 27, 2020. Location: Lake Ladoga, The Markatsimansalmi Strait. m/s Patriarch Alexy II Project: 342E, hydrofoil Meteor Built in: 1988
