DIOCLETIAN’S PALACE (ST. DOMNIUS CATHEDRAL, CRYPT, BAPTISTERY): SPLIT, CROATIA! (4K)

Split is the second largest city in Croatia, and it features a strong ancient Roman influence. I visited parts of the 1,700-year-old Roman Emperor Diocletian’s Palace, which includes Peristyle or Emperor’s Square, where Emperor Diocletian lived and where he would address his subjects; St. Domnius Cathedral, with its distinctive bell tower on the outside, and ornately carved wooden doors and beautiful altars on the inside (the cathedral was originally Diocletian’s mausoleum); the Crypt of St. Lucy, which is dedicated to Lucy, the Patron Saint of Blindness, as Lucy’s eyes were gouged out before she was executed for her religious beliefs during Diocletian’s purge; and the 4th century Baptistery of St. John, which was originally a Temple of Jupiter, before being converted to a Baptistery in the 6th century.
