Mixed Epithelial-Connective tissue graft harvesting from palate
The mixed epithelial-connective tissue graft is a soft tissue graft harvested from the palate, which combines a zone of Keratinised epithelium together with a wider base of connective tissue.
This way the mixed draft is a combination of the three gingival graft and the connective tissue graft.
Such a graft has certain advantages at the recipient site:
- it can increase the width of the keratinised mucosa at the recipient side, while at the same time augment the volume of the soft tissue.
Also through the fixation zone - which is enveloped in a split thickness flap at the recipient side - it can increase stability and vascularization of the graft.
In this video we will follow the procedure of harvesting a mixed tissue graft from the palate. This is to be later fixated on the recipient side buccally of a mandibular implant.
The recipient site is prepared with a split thickness , apically repositioned flap .
