we present a special feature on classical martial arts and visit a major demonstration event that brings together a diverse range of schools. Classical martial arts differ from their modern counterparts as they were born on the battlefield. Disciplines include kenjutsu (the precursor of kendo), jujutsu (the precursor of judo), as well as countless others. Our report from the demonstration reveals the depth and appeal of these classical techniques.
