Large Eddy Simulations of turbulence combined with advanced combustion models are essential tools for predictive internal combustion engine simulation, because they can capture cyclic variability.
This simulation shows a very high-fidelity Large Eddy combustion calculation with n-dodecane used as a surrogate for diesel fuel and a minimum cell size in the order of 60 micrometers. To the best of our knowledge, this is one of the largest spray combustion simulations performed with a peak computational cell count of about 30 million.
