Patrick has had a pretty horrible day . He had a realllllly long and scary seizure this morning and has been having small fits this evening. We can’t do anything more for him than we are already doing at this stage. We can sick him again but we try to only do that when they are self harming themselves . He is on pain relief twice a day. Some information about mange mites below These microscopic mites burrow under the skin and cause severe pain. You may notice scratching, biting, hair loss, and in serious cases, seizures. Severe infestations can be life threatening. If you suspect one of your guinea pigs has mange mites, treat them all (they can be carriers while showing no signs) as soon as possible. Both ivermectin and selamectin (Revolution) will effectively kill mange mites. Ivermectin is readily available but requires multiple doses because ivermectin does not kill the eggs.
