Katanga Slum, Uganda (When you see this . . .) Today I went to visit, film and document Katanga Slum, a well known slum in Kampala, Uganda. Even before I arrived in Katanga Slum the scenery was amazing as we snaked our way through the crowds of workers, pedestrians vendors and automobiles all fighting for space on the bustling streets of the city. As soon as I got to Katanga slum a large family wanted to talk to me. This drew a lot of interest from the surrounding people and many more people wanted to be filmed and share their thoughts and feelings with the world. I thought they all had a unique perspective. Katanga Slum is an interesting place which presents an interesting set of challenges for anyone living there. After chatting with some people some local kids guided us through Katanga slum. It’s like walking through a maze if you’ve never been there before. The narrow pathways were lined with shanties and improvised structures that served as these people’s homes.
