Intersex Anatomy and Healthcare Lecture at Stanford Medicine

What do intersex people need from their healthcare providers? What is the history of intersex medical treatment? This is my full lecture on intersex people’s anatomy, healthcare needs, and history, given at Stanford Medicine’s 2021 Women’s Health Forum event. The Women’s Health Forum forum is hosted by the Women’s Health & Sex Difference in Medicine (WHSDM) department. I’ve had the pleasure of refining this lecture at Stanford over the past 5 years, and am thrilled that the most recent version is now publicly available. Thank you to Dr. Stefanick, T.O., and crew for sharing the recording and getting this intersex healthcare knowledge out there! 0:00 Intro and my background 1:53 Intersex variations explained 8:35 Healthcare needs for physical issues 13:28 Hormone care for intersex people 15:38 Why intersex was not always a medical ’issue’ 21:21 Intersex issues today 22:20 Tips and resources for healthcare providers
