When the referee stopped the fight last night I knew what I was doing, and I knew that I’d been down for a count of seven, it was a surprise really but it’s no good arguing with the referee ’cos his decision is final. I’m very sad that I shan’t be taking the middleweight champion ship of the World, back to England with me, but when I go back I shall be taking back something greater than the championship of the World for I shall be taking with me the good wishes of thousands of the American people who were at that show last night, and the people that I met while I was over there
