By reciting it 108 times every day, it can help us unlock wisdom, break through all obstacles, ensure protection from evil spirits, and receive blessings for eliminating disasters and calamities. In one story, Ananda was bewitched by the Mara’s spell. Buddha requested Bodhisattva Manjushri to bring the Mantra of the Great Compassionate Heart to rescue Ananda. The Shurangama Sutra states, “Through this mantra, all Tathagatas attain supreme, perfect enlightenment. In the Dharma-ending Age, those who can recite it will be protected from fire, water, and poison. All evil spells will have no effect on them. It purifies those who have broken their precepts, clears their precept roots, and grants wisdom to the ignorant. All karmic obstacles are like melting snow. Soon, they will attain the patience of non-birth. After death, they will be reborn in the Pure Land of the ten directions according to their aspirations. Reciting this mantra or wearing it can help one acquire desired offspring, longevity, and complete fruition of karmic results. It also protects practitioners in their meditation, preventing any interference from demonic entities.“ In simple terms, reciting the Mantra of the Great Compassionate Heart can bring many benefits: longevity, protection from evil spirits, fulfillment of desires for children, attainment of the patience of non-birth, immunity to harm from fire, water, and poison, elimination of all evil spells and curses, and the attainment of supreme wisdom.
