On Saturday, Israel launched its heaviest attack on Beirut in over a week, conducting at least a dozen airstrikes. Massive plumes of smoke filled the sky above the city’s southern suburbs, where Hezbollah’s main base is located. Some residents were warned to evacuate, but they had only minutes to flee before strikes hit. One multi-storey building was completely destroyed, and the extent of casualties is still being assessed. The Israeli military claims it targeted Hezbollah’s weapons storage facilities and intelligence headquarters in Dahieh. In retaliation, Hezbollah fired rockets at the Israeli city of Haifa, killing one person. A drone also targeted Prime Minister Netanyahu’s residence, though he was not home at the time.
