Debapriya Das and Nrityakosh belly dancing to Apollo’s Triumph by Audiomachine (Paul Dinletir Remix) for the theatrical dance showcase Scheherazade’s Web: Tales from Arabian Nights. Scheherazade’s Web is a theatrical Belly Dance showcase which brings forth famous characters and their stories from thousand and one nights. The showcase brought to life well known characters from the tales - Aladdin and Jasmine, the clever slave girl Morgiana from Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves and Sinbad the Sailor. This was weaved through a story within a story format, much like the 1001 nights stories, with Scheherazade at the helm. The story of Scheherazade and the cruel king Shahryar ties all of these distinctly separate fantastical tales together. The showcase involves close to 35 intermediate and advance students of Nrityakosh, some of whom essayed characters from the story. The show was staged on Nov. 2 at Alliance Francaise.
