Mozart Meets Metal - ’Queen of the Night’ from The Magic Flute

Hi all! Happy 40th Anniversary to one of the greatest movies of all time - ’AMADEUS’, released September 19th 1984. Everyone has their top 10 list of favorite movies and like me, it changes from time to time. But I will tell you this: Amadeus will always be on my top 10 list. In 1 year, in 10 years, in 30 years. I can’t even estimate how many times I’ve seen it. For the 40 year mark, I wanted to do something that challenged my brain with arrangement but also unexpected, so I picked THE aria (or by the appropriate title - Der Hölle Rache kocht in meinem Herzen). In the process of doing the accompaniment, I was mindblown by the harmonies and note movements that countered the voice. That’s why classical music is still so impressive to me (and I’m sure many others). In this one, the listener is so focused on the voice at first because it’s so challenging to a vocalist that the music underneath is listened to as “just backup“ but it’s just as fantastic.
