Magnús Jóhann - Concrete Box - 2022 - Improvisation for Hammond organ, Minimoog & electronics

One of the most active musicians creating in Reykjavik is Icelandic keyboardist/composer Magnús Jóhann. His latest release, Concrete Box - Improvisation for Hammond organ, Minimoog and electronics. Is a 17 minute piece of music captured on video by director Pálmi Kormákur. The title of the EP and video inspired by the setting of the video recording. June 10th, 2022 Magnús lugged his 60 year old Hammond organ, Leslie rotary speaker, Minimoog synthesizer and various effect pedals into the huge empty space and set up for recording. “I love working with lush sounding instruments in unorthodox ways, deconstructing them, filtering and/or blending with noise in order to create something that sounds like it doesn’t originate from said instrument” Magnús says about how he approached the recordings.
