Israeli war cabinet calls on Haredi Jews to serve in the countrys army
Twelve ultra-Orthodox Jews, known as Haredim, were recruited for non-military duty by the Israeli Prison Service, after they said they wanted to contribute to the Gaza war effort. RT Middle East bureau chief Maria Finoshina looks into the move, which has been called divisive for the religious community, which has traditionally been exempt from military service.
