Coldcut and Hexstatic - Timber (Deepart Repaint5)

In 2017 it was Coldcut’s 30th Birthday and also 20 years since the release of Timber, Coldcut and Hexstatic’s best know Audio-Visualism piece, put together with Stuart Warren-Hill. Matt got interested in the new AI image processing techniques, the hot one at the time was Style Transfer. The University of Tubingen, pioneers of the ’Deep Art’ AI approach and the Style Transfer technique, kindly agreed to allow us to process frames on their servers so we could experiment with applying Style Transfer to videos rather than just stills. William Rood, aka Tantric Billy, long time CC collab and art coder, wrote a script to allow us to break a video into frames, upload them, use Style Transfer to render the frames, and send them back to us. We then curated different sections to make this ’repaint’ version of Timber. Was only used on the 30th birthday tour, not released till now. Spot the Picasso, Hokusai and other art styles!
