Tajikistan Declares War on Hijab

Tajikistan, a predominantly Muslim country, has taken a controversial stance by passing a law banning the hijab and certain Islamic holiday celebrations, despite 96% of its population identifying as Muslim. President Emomali Rahmon approved the bill, which labels the hijab an “alien garment“ and imposes hefty fines on offenders. The legislation, aimed at promoting a secular national identity, also prohibits the practice of “Idi,“ where children seek money during Islamic festivals.
