A quick run through of some fencing footwork and drills.
The main points to focus on while fencing are:
Lifting toe on step forward, leading foot always moves first, i.e. on step forward, front foot moves first, on step backwards back foot moves first. Both feet land at the same time when completing a step.
On the lunge and fléche always ensure that your hand straightens before you move into the action. In the lunge ensure that through the recovery your arm is kept straight to ensure you are covered in the event of a counter attack.
On the lunging pad the main focus is to raise your hand through the touch, relax your shoulders down on the hit.
The main Lunging pad drills consisted of:
- 10 x touch pad
- 8 x step touch pad
- 6 x step touch pad squat
- 4 x lunge touch pad
- 4 x step lunge touch pad
x 3 (increasing speed in each set)
