Japan’s Otokonoko cross-dressing culture challenge gender norms • FRANCE 24 English
Today’s Focus report takes us to Japan where we’ll take a deep dive into the Otokonoko subculture. Born from the world of mangas in the early 2000s, Otokonokos are usually men who dress in feminine clothing for entertainment – much like drag culture. Yuko Sano, Mélodie Sforza, Alexis Bregere and Yena Lee report on how Otokonokos are bending gender norms in a socially conservative society.
