He graduated from the Moscow Gnesin Music School in 1968. Vasilkov became famous after performing with German Lukyanov Trio at Moscow Jazz Festivals in 1965-66. He also played in Vadim Sakun Quintet in 1967 and Alexei Kozlov Quartet in 1968. Vladimir used to play at all famous jazz cafes in Moscow, including Molodezhnoe, Café Rhythm, and Blue Bird.
