Aikijo no suburi

This is a demonstration of the twenty aikijō no suburi formulated by Morihiro Saito. The suburi represent core movements of the aikijō system practiced in Ueshiba O-Sensei’s Iwama Dōjō. These short solo exercises will help you to develop confident handling of the jō or short staff. These movements commonly appear in partner practice so it is good to be well acquainted with them. As a solo practice you can develop coordination, dexterity, strength, balance and internal connections. All you need is a little time, a little space and a stick. Please note, due to an editing error in the original, the last two suburi should read; 19 - 左流れ返し打ち Hidari nagare gaeshi uchi 20 - 右流れ返し突き Migi nagare gaeshi tsuki 岩間の合気杖の素振りの二十本 Alan Roberts studied with Saito Morihiro Shihan
