Major X-Flare and CME - Old Region 3664 is Back and It’s Crackling With X-Flares

Old Region 3664 is Back and It’s Crackling With X-Flares. An X2.9 Flare from old Region 3664 occurred at 27/07:08 UTC. The event is also responsible for an energetic coronal mass ejection (CME. Due to its far SE location, energetic particles could take some time to arrive in the near Earth environment. The source region is still located behind the east limb, so the flare itself was likely stronger than the X2.9 measurement. The associated CME should be directed away from our planet. R3 (Strong) Radio Blackout Radiation from the flare caused a deep shortwave radio blackout over SE Asia, China, India, Indian Ocean, Southern Africa,Central Africa, North Africa, Europe, West Russia, Siberia, Middle East. Old Region 3664 was the source of twelve X-Class solar flares between May 8th and May 15th and multiple Earth directed coronal mass ejections that led to a historical extreme geomagnetic storm on May 10th and 11th. #Xflare #CME #solarstorm Images credit: NOAA/SWPC, AIA/SDO/HMI, SOHO/LASCO, nemesis maturity channel, Music credit: YouTube Audio Library
