Smyth Busters: Will Leaning a Gun Against a Wall Bend the Barrel

Our intrepid Smyth Busters, Brownells Gun Techs Steve and Caleb take on what may, or may not, be another item of firearm wisdom: If you store your gun leaning against the wall of your gun safe or otherwise store it with some pressure exerted on the barrel.... the barrel will bend over time. The guys don’t keep us in suspense. This myth is total nonsense! Barrels are made of STEEL - and extremely strong steel at that. The amount of weight needed to bend a barrel is far, far more than the weight of the gun itself. Drive your truck over it, and the barrel might - MIGHT - bend. Lean the gun up against a wall, and the entire building will decay and collapse before the barrel bends. This myth is totally BUSTED!
