BACK IN THE DAYS Anni ’80, Como, un gruppo di ragazzi con una passione incredibile per gli sport estremi, un laboratorio, uno stereo e una musicassetta piena di tracce funky. A ritmo di musica i ragazzi sperimentano, costruiscono e progettano tavole di ogni tipo marchiandole Funky. Questa scena rappresenta il primo passo del lungo percorso che ha reso Funky uno dei marchi di riferimento per il mondo di snowboard, skateboard, windsurf e surf. Il primo snowboard costruito da Lucio Longoni (Godfather di Funky) viene chiamato Preistoria, una tavola interamente in legno lunga 120 cm, con una punta rialzata e un marchio a fuoco con il nome del modello. Da quel giorno Funky inizia un periodo di incessante sviluppo tecnologico che riesce a portare le sue tavole sui podi dello snowboard mondiale. In pochi anni il brand Italiano diventa uno dei principali marchi di snowboard europei ampliando la propria clientela anche oltre oceano, ma purtroppo gli anni di grande gloria durano poco. Durante la produzione di un grosso lotto di tavole, destinate al mercato americano, un alluvione distrugge gran parte dei macchinari e il 50% delle tavole pronte per essere consegnate viene ridotto a poco più di un cumulo di legna bagnata. Funky si spegne con la stessa velocità con cui era diventata grande, e quel laboratorio pieno di idee a malincuore é costretto a chiudere i battenti. Ma le grandi idee non possono rimanere nella polvere… Dopo 15 anni vogliamo riproporre il brand storico mantenendo intatta la filosofia originale. Amicizia, passione e innovazione sono colonne portanti che contraddistinguono lo spirito Funky, assieme ovviamente ad un po’ di sana cazzonaggine. Nonostante quest’ultimo aspetto, quando si tratta di tavole facciamo sul serio, i prodotti che offriamo sono il frutto di un lavoro di progettazione minuzioso, seguito da una ricerca dei migliori materiali e tecnologie, in seguito lavorati artigianalmente nella Funky factory. Gli atleti del nostro team poi non se ne stanno certo zitti quando c’è da cambiare qualcosa che reputano sia migliorabile, e quindi sono parte fondamentale nel processo di sviluppo di ogni modello di tavola Funky. ----- BACK IN THE DAYS The 80s, Como, a group of guys with an incredible passion for extreme sports, a laboratory, a stereo and a cassette full of funky tracks. To the rhythm of music the boys experiment, build and design boards of all kinds branding them Funky. This scene represents the first step of the long journey that has made Funky one of the reference brands for the world of snowboarding, skateboarding, windsurfing and surfing. The first snowboard built by Lucio Longoni (Funky’s Godfather) is called Prehistory, an all-wood board 120 cm long, with a raised tip and a fire-branded mark with the name of the model. From that day on Funky starts a period of incessant technological development that succeeds in bringing its boards on the podiums of world snowboarding. In a few years the Italian brand became one of the main European snowboard brands, expanding its clientele even overseas, but unfortunately the years of great glory were short-lived. During the production of a large batch of boards, destined for the American market, a flood destroys most of the machinery and 50% of the boards ready to be delivered are reduced to little more than a pile of wet wood. Funky went out of business just as quickly as it had become great, and that workshop full of ideas was reluctantly forced to close its doors. But great ideas cannot remain in the dust... After 15 years we want to revive the historical brand while keeping intact the original philosophy. Friendship, passion and innovation are the main pillars that distinguish the Funky spirit, together with a bit of healthy badassery. In spite of this last aspect, when it comes to boards we are serious, the products we offer are the result of a meticulous design work, followed by a research of the best materials and technologies, then handcrafted in the Funky factory. The athletes of our team don’t shut up when there’s something to change that they think can be improved, so they are a fundamental part of the development process of each Funky board model.
