4 Rescuers Needed to Save Giant Seal

Large seal bull rescues are tricky, the animals don’t always fit into the net, and they are incredibly strong and can easily cause harm to the rescuers. On Antoine’s first seal patrol back in Namibia, the OCN rescue crew spotted a gigantic entangled seal bull. They quickly discussed the best strategy, and then went for him. He first managed to shake off the net, but eventually the rescuers could entrap him in the rescue net. They have learned that seals will always run away from the rescuers, and Naude asked the other crew members to stay behind the seal to drive him into the net. The net was just big enough for him, and they could cut his entanglement by going in from the big opening. Three rescuers had to hold him down to make this rescue possible. A thin piece of plastic strap would have taken a giant seal bull’s life if the crew from OCN had not intervened.
