Philodendron ‘Dean McDowell’ vs Philodendron pastazanum
History: Philodendron ‘Dean McDowell’ was created in 1988 by the avid aroider and hybridizer John Banta by crossing Philodendron gloriosum and P. pastazanum. It was named after his close friend who died of AIDS, which is all the more reason to get the name right.
The hybrid is dominant resulting in some confusion in the trade. Below are some characteristics to tell them apart:
